Feb 7 update

After a long night sleep (we went to bed around 7pm) and a little bit of breakfast we returned to the hospital to visit our little man. The nurse who was there last night, Jan was there again this morning. She was taking VERY good care of Gabriel. Gabriel ran a temperature all night last night. He reached highs of 102.5. She let us know that he was reaching those temperatures even on Tylenol. They had to give Gabriel a blood transfusion last night and were working to avoid another one today. They were also having a rough time keeping our little man sedated. Over all though, he appears to be doing better than yesterday.

Come to find out they had a very rough time stabilizing him once they took him into the room yesterday. That is why we had to wait two hours between seeing the surgeon and getting to see him. I am so glad I did not know about that yesterday on no sleep! He honestly looks so good. He is no longer grey; I had not realized his color was so grey until seeing him today.

We haven’t had a chance to update more because we are spending as much time with our little man as we can. Our friends are the best! One of my good friends came up. She sat in the waiting room for when Gabe and I needed breaks. She was there to talk to and to just chill with. Tomorrow my best friends from high school are coming up to do the same. It is so nice to have so much support! It means so much to Gabe, Gabriel and I! Your thoughts and prayers mean a lot as well!

  1. Glad to hear that you got a good night sleep. Isn't great to have super friends who look out for you!?!?! I've said it before, you are going to be so amazed at how quickly Gabriel improves. It seemed like every time we left the room for a period of time, another piece of equipment was taken off Lily. I think of you guys often.

  2. I am so happy to hear he is improving nicely. I know what you mean about the change in his color. Just wait until you get him home and he shows you all of his new energy. It is great to hear you have some dear friends to lean on. We will keep him in our prayers.

  3. Thanks for sending the updates through the mail to us about Gabe the babe. We've been praying for his recovery from the heart surgury as you requested. I've enjoyed this Blog site with picures, a slideshow, videos, and journalism. Last September the Bendixen family and our new inlaws, the Biddingers, thanks to Barak and Amanda, went to spend three days with your grandma, Erin. We had a great time there, even though it rained for two days straight. We were out in the lake on Kayaks taking it all in. Anyhow, that's when we first learned of Gabe the Babe. How long might you spend in Ann Arbor? Maybe we could visit?
