ear infection?

Well, I think Gabriel has a ear infection. He did not sleep but a few hours last night. Today he was in tears and inconsolable most of the day. He keeps covering his ears. Poor baby!

To the doctor we will go tomorrow. He gets his first shot against RSV for this season on Tuesday. So Gabe will get to drive Gabriel to the doctor (30 minutes each way) two days in a row. I am sure he will be excited. On Wednesday Gabe goes to Lansing (2 hours each way) to have his back checked out one more time. My mom is going to come down and stay Tuesday to Wednesday to help take care of Gabriel while Gabe is on the road to and from Lansing all day. Papa has a doctors appointment and Mimi has to drive him so they are unavailable. We have the best families ever!

Great News!!!

Gabriel had a cardiologist appointment today. He is doing amazing! He is doing so well that the cardiologist wants to wean him off the last two medications he is on. We will be medication free in three weeks if all goes well!!!! We see him again in 6 months and if all is still looking good we wont have to see him for another year from there.

We are up to 17lbs 8 oz and 28.5 inches long!!!

We took a much needed break

Gabe was able to switch some of his weekend duties with another guy. He managed to get the weekend off for the first time in over a month. We took Friday off and took a much needed break. We went down to my parents house south of Lansing.

Gabe was able to go hunting on county property there. It was GREAT for him to get out into the woods and forget the world for a few moments. He has been working 6-7 day weeks for so long he needed to be able to get away even if only for a few hours.

Gabriel and I went to the Greater Lansing cross country meet on Saturday. I had him bundled up so well he did not realize he was outside in the cold. I found a cute little winter cover-up that was in storage. It was in storage because it was too big but with all of his layers on it was almost too small. It is a brown little thing with bear ears. I had more than a few people stop me and ask why I was carrying a stuffed bear around on my back. UMMM, that would be my son sleeping soundly. I took pictures of him but left my camera at my parents house. Smart, huh!

Gabe and I went out to an adult dinner with some friends Saturday evening. We had a great time but realized we are parents so we called it a night pretty early.

Other than that we did a whole lot of nothing all weekend. It was nice!

Missing my boys

I have had parent teacher conferences the past two nights. We had a pretty good turn out last night because we provided dinner to those who saw each of the 6 teachers their student sees. We had a lot of children come in without parents for food. Some of them aren't getting food at home. Tonight was much slower.

I leave for work at 5:45am. With conferences I have not been getting home until 8:30. This makes it so that I only get to see my little man for 10 minutes awake for the day. I have seen Gabe less than 5 minutes in the past two days as well. It really bothers me to not get to see my boys!

I am too tired to think straight so I am off to bed.

learning new things

Gabriel won a raffle at the Buddy Walk yesterday. He got a bag FULL of things. His favorite item is a Curious George stuffed monkey. This morning he took my phone and put it up to George's mouth and continued to talk (who knows what was said)to George as if it was though the phone. Too cute. It was at 5am so I did not have a camera around and was not quick in getting one.
Gabriel also finished a bottle this morning and threw it at me as I was walking toward the kitchen. Gabe has been working with Gabriel on throwing things (great). I was pretty surprised to have a bottle thrown at me.
Gabriel can now clap his hands as he cheers and as he does "patty cake, patty cake".
He is getting so big. He clapped as MSU won and as Michigan lost in football this weekend.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who was able to donate to the Buddy Walk. We are so excited to go for our second year tomorrow. It means a lot to us to have so much support! You all are amazing!

If you are in the area and would like to join us we will be at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids. 9:30 is sign in, WeRPurdy is our team name, we will be there rain or shine. It is $10 for a person and $30 for a family and you get t-shirts. We would love to see everyone there but we also know that things happen and people get busy.

Love you all! :)

I can't wait for the Buddy Walk on Saturday!

Parenting.com celebrates children with Down syndrome the whole month of October. They put photo galleries up. There are two up already so far. I sent in a picture of Gabriel. I hope they use it. Please check out the other little ones. They are SO cute!

Dancing King

Gabriel has learned how to clap but he refuses to do it on camera. I got a video anyway, this is of him dancing to Elmo. He loves his Elmo doll even though he spends more time taking Elmo out than dancing to him. Gabriel has not figured out how to push the buttons to make Elmo go.

'Tis the season

It's the season for sickness. Gabriel and I have had our flu shots. Gabe does not qualify for his shot to be covered through our insurance, so he is getting his when his work does them.
I am worried about H1N1. We have had several of our kids out with it already. Our kids come to school no matter what because they get meals and sometimes it is just plain safer than their environment at home. My ob wants me to get the vaccine for H1N1 as soon as they get in their office.
We just found out that Gabriel qualifies and our insurance will cover the synagis shot for another year. This is against a shot against Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. It is a nasty sickness from what I hear. I would rather be safe than sorry where Gabriel is concerned. I am so excited that he qualifies for the shot! This does mean that his heart is of enough concern to allow Gabriel to get the shot. I am not going to get too worked up. He has an appointment with his cardiologist at the end of the month. We will see how he is doing at that point in time.

I am looking forward to the Buddy Walk this weekend!!!
