thoughts

So, we are facing another surgery for Gabriel in a couple weeks.  In the perfect world this surgery will help Gabriel with some things that have been holding him back.  In the real world I know better than to get my hopes up.

Best case
Tonsil and adenoid removal- Gabriel will be able to breath better and will get some real sleep.  This will also help him eat.  Having large tonsil and adenoids may be part of the reason he wasn't eating anything he had to chew.  So maybe after surgery he will realize he can swallow and will start to eat like his little sister.
Ear tubes - Maybe part of Gabriel's speech delay is that he is not hearing well.  We know he is not hearing much out of his left ear so hopefully tubes will help to clear the passage and allow him to be able to hear better.  Maybe he will learn what an inside voice is?!?! ;)
Eating- maybe he will feel so good after surgery he will be able to eat and drink and will only have to stay in the hospital over night.

(more than likely) Reality
Tonsil and adenoid removal -  Will have no barring on Gabriel's inability to eat food he has to chew.  We will be right where we are now (pediasure with a little milk and some infant smooth foods) or even regress.
Ear tubes - Gabriel's difficulty hearing out of his left ear is not able to be fixed by the simple placement of tubes.  His speech will still progress slowly as it is now.  He will never find his inside voice and cause his mother to become deaf or go bald (from pulling her hair out) at an early age.
Eating - Gabriel is going to be in the hospital a while because he will not eat or drink.  I honestly believe we are going to be at the hospital a while trying to get Gabriel to eat and drink.  Because it is always a struggle to get food down Gabriel I have a feeling this surgery is going to be very difficult.

Only time will tell.  We are going to shoot for the best and hopefully land somewhere between the best case and reality.
Have an amazing night everyone!

  2. I will be praying that Gabriel recovers easily from the surgery. Give him time, it takes a few weeks following the surgery to see the full results.
Evan had his tonsils and adenoids removed a week ago. We were able to leave the hospital that day. Evan drank juice from a medicine dropper for the first 24 hours following surgery. It was the only way we could get liquids into him.

  3. Hang in there! He's going to pull through like a champ...he's done heart surgery, this will be a breeze! I will continue to pray that this is the solution and he will be on the mend soon. I can't wait to see you at the Christmas party!
