Gabriel is doing good today. He is just finishing up his third sprint which is where they turn off the ventilator and he has to breathe on his own. The first two went great and if the third does as well they will take him off the ventilator for good! That should be some time early afternoon. He is getting some steroids to help with swelling in his throat at 2 and then it would be some time shortly after that. They took out his catheter last night some time.
The nurse said this morning that he is progressing better than expected at this point! We had a good night sleep last night after Erin and I went on a date! We will update more later.

Sunday update
The new chest tube is doing its job! Fluids are finally coming out the right side! When they took out the line that measures pressure somewhere in the heart they also took off the tape covering Gabriel's incision. We both were pleasently surprised. It was honestly much better than we thought it would be.
They are trying to find the right mixture of sedation where he keeps breathing over the breathing tube but not so active he pulls the tube out. He has moments where he completely breaths over it but he also is very active. They dont want him to active in fear that he will pull the breathing tube out and they will have to put it back in. It is pretty rough on a little guy's throat to put a breathing tube down so they really want to do it as little as possible.
We were able to show Gabriel's nurse and the other nurse in the room our blog. They said that they dont get to see the little ones when they arent sedated. Once they are well enough they are shipped down to the step down unit. They really enjoyed seeing the pictures of Gabriel smiling and being his normal self. We enjoyed seeing out little man being himself as well. We will get back to that soon. We got a smirk out of Gabriel today... smiles will soon follow! And as everyone knows where there are smiles, giggles are on the way!
We cant wait to see Gabriel's improvements! We know there will be hurddles along the way but over all our Gabriel is going to come out of this with a smile!

They are pulling the PAL tube as I type this, it measure something in the heart. They are putting another drain tube in between his ribs because the other one was not draining well. His temperature is back down to normal! He is a lot more awake today! They are going to start working his lungs out a bit in preparation for removing his breathing tube. Maybe Monday, but more likely Tuesday he will be taken off the ventilator! That is all for now, we are going to go back up to see baby Gaby!
