home life

Well in the whole week that I have not updated the blog MANY things have happened. Gabriel now says mehmeh (mama)!!! SO proud! He has been saying dada for a few weeks. Yesterday Gabriel did something we weren't sure he would ever do. He gets his arms under him and pushes himself forward. His legs have not figured out how to crawl yet but his arms are sure working hard. I am going to get a video and put it up here!

Gabe is still hurting pretty bad. Surgery can't happen soon enough but we are still very cautious about surgery. Gabe had a surgery go bad on his shoulder the 9th of July last year. He is having surgery the 6th of July this year... crazy. We still have to go back and have shoulder surgery to fix the mistakes made last year but we have been putting it off. The pain in his shoulder isn't as bad as the pain in his back.

We are looking into getting central air. Gabriel does not do well in the heat. He cant sleep and is almost constantly covered in sweat. His eating has suffered as well. We put a window air conditioner on our main floor today. Gabriel has done much better. He even took a extended nap today due to not really sleeping the last few days because he was too uncomfortable. With the new tax deductions on air conditioners and knowing someone who installs them hopefully we can come up with a plan that we can afford.

surgery for Gabe

Gabe will be having back surgery in Lansing on July 6th. It is going to be one of the longest waits! It is hard to see Gabe in so much pain. He is eating pain pills which makes him even more upset.
I took Gabriel to his speech therapy yesterday. He weighs a whole 14lbs and 14oz!!! So excited to see that he gained 5 oz. His tongue is getting much stronger. We will be doing another swallow study to see if we can stop thickening his food. While he is in the study they are going to test solids and see how he does with them. If he does good we can feed him a much better variety of food! SO EXCITED!

Surgery

It looks like Gabe is going to have surgery very soon. It is possible he will have back surgery as soon as Thursday. We are meeting with the surgeon tomorrow and will know for sure. Gabe has two herniated disks as well as a 13mm piece of bone touching his spinal cord.

In April when we took Gabriel to the hospital I knew he was very thin. They admitted him to Devos on April 20th and kept him for a week. April 19th I took Gabriel to the hospital near where we live and they treated me like a crazy mother. I was looking back at pictures I took with my cell phone on the 19th while at the hospital near our home. I can not believe how awful my little man looked. I am so happy he is so healthy right now! Here are a few pictures from the 19th of April.

beautiful day

It was such a beautiful day today! Gabriel and I went downtown to the art festival. You would think I brought the most interesting art with me. My little man was completely showboating. He was laughing and talking up a storm. So many people stopped what they were doing to look at him and comment on how amazing his eyes are.

A guy came up and told me that he had a 9 month old boy at home and how fast babies grow. Then he asked how old Gabriel is. I told him that Gabriel is almost 10 months old. The man's response was "no". I had to laugh. BoogaBoo is still pretty skinny but he is long. Of course he was scrunched up in his front carrier.

I hope everyone else was able to enjoy the weather!

goodness

I hoped I would be better about posting more often once I was at home for the summer. That doesn't seem to be the case.

Gabe hurt his back Wednesday last week. We have been to doctor appointment after doctor appointment. He had a MRI on Tuesday. We just go the results back. Herniated disk... SURGERY.

Gabriel is amazing and is getting stronger each day! It has been a crazy hectic week! That is all I have time to say. Gabriel is trying to help me type:)

New Pictures

BigFoot (Biggie) is our cat with 26 toes. He has 7 on each front paw and 6 on each back paw. Biggie has adopted Gabriel as his own. They play each day. Biggie gives Gabriel motivation to move around the house. Gabriel pets Biggie by pulling his hair out.
Here is a wonderful video of Biggie cleaning Gabriel -

giggles

One more day of work then months of getting to hang out with Gabriel.
He was super cute today. I have video of him playing in the bath tub but it wouldn't load. It is too late to mess with it so I will add that tomorrow.

This is the lovely face that greeted me when I got home today:

We had a lot of fun with food tonight:

mama?

Gabe swears that he heard Gabriel say Mama yesterday. He tried to get Gabriel to say it in front of me and of course he was completely mute.
